If you are a numbers guy, and we already know who you are, then this is your time to shine. Your time to shatter previous records, your time to brag without having to alter your fish story in the slightest degree! Your time to be a true honest lad, sit back, rope fish, slurp on warm soup, and belly laugh at the craziness that is April in Montana.
What an incredible start to the season it has been. Cold night temps and occasional snow flurries by day, have created an early spring recipe for the ages. Fish are happy to say the least; with 30+ fish days almost guaranteed every time the boat hits the water (57 in one session a guest tallied, I do not count, so his word against nobodies I guess). The freestone rivers are currently on the drop creating epic dry fly eats. It’s only a matter of time until our huge snow pack makes its way into the lower valleys and spikes everything.
People overlook April in Montana. You need to break that habit and change your per-conceived notions! April/May consistently produce the most big fish to the net over any other month without question. Fish are hungry, both rainbows and browns alike, and they can be targeted any which way you prefer! Streamers, nymphs, dries, they all work given the river and day! The MO is a place if you haven’t visited, you just plain should! TBFF = The Big Fish Factory.
