May and June saw Montana locals flocking to enjoy time outside with family. We were camping, floating, fishing, living pretty much the normal life in the country side while others couldn't leave their houses in the big cities across the US. We always knew how fortunate we are to live in an incredible state like Montana. The 4th largest state in the union, we are just now topping a million residents. Social distancing is a part of our everyday life for most of us, especially when on the water floating. We never take that aspect for granted, especially during these trying times.
As soon as governor Bullock allowed commercial fishing to resume for non residents we were on the water with clients. July 2nd we started bending rods on the Missouri river. For the people that did not cancel or move dates to a later time, we thank you so very much. Your efforts on making it to Montana certainly did not go unnoticed, and were rewarded with some of the best mid season fishing we have seen in some time! We landed fish on multiple rivers across the state, 9 to be exact, using various techniques. It was exciting to see success on the water and get our minds wrapped around some form of normalcy again. August is sure to bring some continuation of great fishing. Hoppers are here to stay for the month. Fish have been looking for the big bug on top. Flows across the state are good even with the current heat wave of 90 degree weather. So far no rivers are under a hoot owl, 2 pm closer, each day. Things are looking good as we roll into the last 2 months of fishing before heading south again to chase monster redfish! With international travel still shut down, and presumably staying that way till the beginning of the year, we encourage y'all to try something different in the marshes of Louisiana. Come tame that internal fishy madness fix with some down south hospitality. Early October and mid December - January dates are still available for the pickings! Prime dates that never disappoint. It's a helluva good time both on and off the water! Thank you again to all who forged forward to Montana. We, more then ever, successfully used fishing as an excuse to escape the rigors of the everyday fast lane, and we’re able to slow the cast down and enjoy the outdoors and life the way it was intended to be.
Cheers,
AWA
